Youth-governed digital safety · Zimbabwe

The internet should open doors. Not become a weapon.

SafeNet turns the campus Wi-Fi gateway students already seek into an optional front door to digital self-defence and support—without requiring another app on a monitored or shared phone.

You are connected

What do you need right now?

Private support is optional. Internet access never depends on disclosure.

You stay in controlLearn, skip or choose a support route.

75%

of 380 undergraduates in one Zimbabwean institutional study reported receiving threatening messages on campus.

Connectivity is already campus infrastructure.

Safety and support should be within the same reach.

The study is institution-specific and not a national or women-only prevalence estimate. SafeNet uses it as an initial signal, not a universal claim.

One familiar entry point

From connection to control—in four deliberate steps.

SafeNet does not claim that a router can police encrypted platforms. It uses the access layer to make prevention and appropriate support easier to discover.

  1. 01

    Connect normally

A participating Wi-Fi welcome page includes an optional SafeNet route alongside ordinary campus resources.

  2. 02

    Choose what helps

Read practical guidance, skip it, learn how to support a friend, or explore private support options.

  3. 03

    Stay in control

Before sharing anything, see who would receive it, their hours, supervision and confidentiality limits.

  4. 04

    Reach accepted help

With consent, only necessary information moves to a chosen provider, with ownership retained until handover is accepted.

What SafeNet is designed to offer

The first release prioritises prevention, human choice and safe escalation. It does not use autonomous AI to judge credibility or generate crisis advice.

01

Digital self-defence

Short, reviewed guidance on sextortion, image-based abuse, coercion, account safety, evidence preservation and non-amplification.

02

Peer navigation

Trained, supervised peers explain options without investigating, judging credibility or replacing professional support.

03

Accountable referral

A consent-led handover remains visibly pending until a qualified provider accepts it—avoiding the dead end of a static directory.

04

Youth-owned governance

Young women shape priorities, language and service quality, while qualified practitioners review sensitive safety content.

Interactive prototype

Step through a safer gateway.

This demo shows the intended experience using fictional scenarios. It stores nothing, accepts no free-text disclosure and does not connect to a real support provider.

Safety is part of the product

Built to preserve agency—not harvest disclosure.

Separate systems

Guidance can sit locally; sensitive support is designed for a separately administered service and is never cached on the campus node.

Minimum necessary data

Users see the recipient and limits before sharing. No intimate-image upload is required.

Human accountability

Peers are supervised, conflicts are managed and users can bypass or change navigators.

Honest limitations

SafeNet does not promise invisible browsing, perfect anonymity or emergency rescue.

From prototype to safeguarded pilot

A focused first deployment.

SafeNet is being prepared for a bounded adult campus pilot in Zimbabwe. Live intake will not begin before host approval, qualified supervision, verified referrals and privacy review.
